What is TYSABRI?
TYSABRI is a prescription medicine approved for patients with relapsing
forms of multiple
sclerosis (MS). TYSABRI works to:
- Slow the worsening of disability that is common in patients with MS
- Decrease the number of flare-ups (relapses)
What makes TYSABRI different?
1) It works in a different way.
- TYSABRI is an antibody, not an interferon or Copaxone®.
An antibody is a protein made by your immune
system
- TYSABRI is thought to inhibit white blood
cells from getting into the brain and attacking nerves
- Keeping these cells from attacking nerves is believed to result in fewer
brain lesions
that cause multiple sclerosis symptoms
- The way in which TYSABRI works has been studied, but the exact way that
TYSABRI works is not fully known
2) It is taken differently than other multiple sclerosis medicines.
- With TYSABRI, you can avoid the hassles of self-injection
- TYSABRI is infused into a vein
once every 4 weeks
The
effectiveness of TYSABRI
TYSABRI may offer many MS patients the strength to reach
their high hopes. It has been proven to slow the worsening of disability and
lower the frequency of flare-ups. TYSABRI has also been shown to reduce the
number of new-active MRI lesions.*
